Happily ever after… until it wasn’t!

3 years ago, I woke up at 5 a.m, threw on some clothes, quietly crept through our home, drank coffee as a single lady, and then headed to the church to get ready for our wedding. I had to be there at 6:30 a.m. to start make up, doing my hair, and getting photos. Our wedding was at noon, and little did I know that those hours would FLY by. The weather surprised us, and it was a very, very cold April 22! Which meant it was very cold in the room I was getting ready in. The wedding lasted 30 mins, and the reception lasted 3 hrs! You wouldn’t believe how dehydrated you get on your wedding day. You are so busy visiting and doing all the things the wedding coordinator tells you that once you slow down, you are extremely cotton-mouthed. (At least that is how it was for us!) Before I knew it, I was riding home with my husband, trying to wrap my head around the fact that our wedding had come and gone. After we got home and settled, we got HUNGRY… Big hungry lol We didn’t have any food plans, nor food in the fridge since we were going to fly out to Hawaii the next day, so where do you think we went??? Harry’s Italian…. All I could think about was sweet tea! We were often told that we had a fairytale romance, and we did. On this day, we were complete. (Don’t settle, because you can have this type of love)
Today would have been our 3rd wedding anniversary. And instead of celebrating with my sweet husband, I’m remembering it as a memory. He died 3 weeks before our 1st anniversary. I was a happily married wife, and now I’m a strong, rebuilt woman with the title Widow. This morning I woke up at 6 a.m., crept through the house while the kiddos slept, made coffee, and started the day…I drank coffee from the same cup I drank it from 3 years ago. I sat with them as they enjoyed their breakfast and remembered the “good”.
Today we sit with what could have been, with both smiles and tears!
