Venting VS Gossip: Venting is usually about expressing emotions and seeking support/understanding with a trusted source, often to process a situation and move forward. Gossip typically involves discussing someone else's flaws or private matters, true or false, often with the intent to entertain, distract, or even harm the other person.

So what does the Bible say about gossip?

James 1:26-27 26 If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.

27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Ephesians 4:25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.

Proverbs 20:19 A gossip goes around telling secrets, so don't hang around with chatterers.

Ouch….. That is deep! No one is perfect. We are all sinners…But we have to strive to be better! Sometimes you have to have a reality check if someone is presenting you with gossip, and consider the source it is coming from. I’ve learned over the course of my adult life, mainly in this current season of life I’m walking, that people will talk about you; especially If you dont do everything accordingly to their own manual on life. I’ve learned first hand that people will talk about you in a negative manner to draw away from their own behavior and actions. Sometimes it is just because they like attention. If someone is spreading lies about you, it says way more about that person and their character than it does about you. While in prayer about this topic, and certain situations I’ve faced recently, it felt like the Lord spoke to my heart and said “They are more worried about worldly appearances, where as YOU are focused on heavenly treasures” which really shifted my perspective on the topic. You can’t control anyone else’s tongue, only yourself and how you respond.

Remember, you can always tell a tree by the fruit it produces. It can say all day it’s an apple tree, but if it produces pears, it’s a pear tree. Fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We all have our moments, moments being key word but that being said, if the tree is always producing negativity and drama, those are not fruits of the spirit.

What does your tree produce?
